Preeya Patel

Business Psychologist, UK

“We get all the benefits of working in small teams closely with one another, but we have the support of a bigger company behind us, which is great.”

Preeya-1

Preeya had just graduated with a master’s degree in business psychology and was searching for jobs when she found an ad for her role at Criterion (one of our former companies before we became Clevry). She was offered an interview but turned it down because she had already been offered a different role. Two years later, she saw another role as a Business Psychologist opening at Clevry, which appealed to her.

“I always wanted to work for a business psychology consultancy, which Criterion was at the time, and then later Clevry. I wanted to work in a smaller team, so the Criterion team of eight people suited me, and the Brighton location was a selling point since I wanted to move here”, Preeya explains.

Soon after Preeya started, she heard that we were going to merge three companies into Clevry and become a much larger business with around 150 people. She was sceptical about how it would affect the feeling of the small team but later realised that it mostly came with benefits.

" I like the camaraderie, the knowing everyone in your workplace and the feeling that there isn't a lot of bureaucracy or red tape between all the levels or all the employees."

“The UK team of Clevry still has that small vibe, so it's not like I'm missing out. I like the camaraderie, the knowing everyone in your workplace and the feeling that there isn't a lot of bureaucracy or red tape between all the levels or employees. We get all the benefits of working in small teams closely, and there's a fun office vibe. But we have the support of a bigger company behind us, which is great”, Preeya says.

Preeya describes her role in Business Psychology as a very broad role that spans both the Assessment and Advisory teams.

“I manage and deliver consultancy projects to clients whenever they want them. For example, I design assessment centres for some clients to support their recruitment. I also advise clients on recruitment practices or fairness and equality during the selection process, advise them regarding psychometrics or deliver training to improve their knowledge and understanding of the talent process. So it's a very varied role.”

Preeya has enjoyed launching our Diversity and Inclusion- audit, a brand new service that she is currently trialling with a client who had identified that they had diversity problems in the way they were selecting candidates.

“We designed and created this new service that has lots of different components in it. It's quite complex, and we hope it will succeed. I think there are lots of little wins in my role. You often deliver work or a project piece well, and there's an excellent win from that, or you get positive feedback from training that you've conducted.”

When asked about the Clevry culture, Preeya answers that she finds the perfect balance between familiar and professional.

“Internally, we have a great culture. We share laughs and conversations, socialise outside work, and enjoy each other’s company. Additionally, when talking to clients, we are professional and usually gain a shared understanding and a positive working relationship quite quickly. I believe that's because we're not incredibly formal with them; we're not those uptight psychologists,” Preeya laughs.
